Heb 12:1-3
1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.(NAS)
This is only one of many places where the Christian life is refered to as a race. In order to stay in the race, our hope must be fixed on Christ. In a race, the winner is the one who never looks away from the finish line. Every aspect of the Christian's life should be aimed toward Jesus and becoming more like Him. Anything that gets in the way of that needs to be cast aside.
When we are in struggles of any kind, we can remember Jesus, who suffered more than we could even imagine, and yet endured it for the sake of our Salvation and His glory. In the same way, we can endure for His glory.
