Time for Prayer

It won't do any good to argue. Without the Holy Spirit, the Word is simply foolishness or a stumbling block.

1 Cor 1:17-25
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, that the cross of Christ should not be made void.18 For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will set aside."20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not {come to} know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.22 For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom;23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.(NAS)

This is a big chunk of scripture, but I think all of it is important. This passage relates to unbelievers being unable to understand the Word, but there is so much more to this passage.

God has made foolish the wisdom of the world. Everything that man tries so hard to understand, to invent, interpret, the greatest of these things fail miserably when compared to God.

In this passage, there is also another hint at the fact that Christians are chosen. It is only through the Holy Spirit opening our eyes that we have the faith to believe in His saving grace. Hey, that's a little like my opening statement.

1 Cor 1:30-31
30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,31 that, just as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord."(NAS)

Do you mind if I use parts and bits of your posts for my devotions in school? I'll quote you. (And the Bible, of course.) If you do mind, I completely understand. No biggie! ;)

If you find anything I say worth sharing, go ahead. Just make sure it's not all me. The Bible needs to be center stage no matter what, especially since I'm not perfect and make mistakes. You probably already know all that, though.

Thank you. Yes, the Bible and the Author Himself should always be the main focus. Thanks for reminding me. A lot of the stuff you say are good stuff. I am terrible at sharing and the like so...it helps. Thanks.
